Tortola is the largest and most populated island of the archipelago, as well as the home of PHSU SOM BVI. It is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches like Smuggler’s Cove and Cane Garden Bay, but also features lush mountain terrain, and the highest peak in BVI in Sage Mountain National Park. The capital city of Road Town offers historical sites, markets and a vibrant local culture. Explore the ruins of historic Fort Burt, built in the 1700s, it offers panoramic views of the harbor. Visit the Callwood Rum Distillery to learn about traditional rum-making techniques and the island’s rum production history dating back to the 18th century.

Several historic sites now house museums with Island history, including The Dungeon, once used as a holding cell for slaves before they were auctioned or The Old Government House, formerly British Virgin Islands' government offices. Both now showcase artifacts, documents, and exhibits highlighting the islands' long history.

Virgin Gorda is a popular spot for beachgoers and adventurers alike. It features unique geological formations, like The Baths, giant granite boulders that form tidal pools and grottoes above white-sand beaches and Candle Rock, a rock formation resembling a candle offering photo opportunities. Visitors experience the island’s flora and fauna when they hike Gorda Peak National Park before enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding islands. Spring Bay, Little Dix Bay and Savannah Bay offer tranquil beaches and snorkeling and diving opportunities. The largest city, Spanish Town offers a variety of cuisine and local culture.

Jost Van Dyke is smaller island with larger-than-life nightlife scene. Stop in iconic Foxy’s Bar famous for its lively atmosphere, live music, and delicious Caribbean barbecue. Discover local shops, eateries, and the welcoming community of Great Harbour, the main entry point of the island. Enjoy the laid-back vibes of White Bay with stunning stretches of beach and crystal-clear waters. 

Sandy Spit and Little Jost Van Dyke are adjacent islands that offer more serene spots, accessible only by boat.

At the northernmost end of the archipelago, Anegada is a low-lying coral atoll. It’s a paradise for seclusion seekers, in fact, you’ll probably find more flamingoes than people on the island. Scuba divers and snorkelers visit to explore the mazes of shallow reefs, underwater caves, shipwrecks and rich marine life. If you prefer to stay above water consistent trade winds and shallow waters, make Anegada a great spot for kiteboarding and windsurfing, too.
